William West was entered in the Navy List of Medical Officers in 1814

On 18 May 1839 he was appointed Surgeon to H.M.S. Revenge at Lisbon.

H.M.S. Revenge was built at Chatham in 1805. 445 officers and men, 60 boys and 150 marines served on board. W. Waldegrave (a) was Captain and Sacket Hope Commander. Henry Baker and Henry J. Domville served as Assistant Surgeons [1]

Surgeon Superintendent

He was employed as Surgeon Superintendent on three convict ship voyages to Australia:

Burrell to New South Wales in 1830

Duchess of Northumberland to Van Diemen's Land in 1843

Equestrian to Van Diemen's Land in 1844.
