Naval Career

John Rankine was appointed Surgeon in the Royal Navy on 23 August 1814.[1] He was appointed to the Madagascar in the Mediterranean 5 June 1833[2]


Surgeon Superintendent

He was employed as Surgeon Superintendent on two convict ship voyages to Australia:

Sarah and Elizabeth to NSW in 1837
Lord William Bentinck to VDL in 1838.
