Convict Ship Surgeon-Superintendent
John Buist was employed as surgeon on the convict ship Rolla in 1802 - 03.
The Rolla departed Cork on 4th November 1802 and arrived in Port Jackson on 12 May 1803 with 119 male and 37 female prisoners
Service in the Royal Navy
John Buist was appointed assistant surgeon in the Royal Navy on 11 December 1806.He was appointed to the Resolute on 13 December 1812.
He was one of several assistant surgeon supernumeraries to the Severn in January 1819. [3]
John Buist was employed as assistant surgeon at the Royal Naval Hospital at Greenwich in 1837[1]
Marriage
The record of the marriage of John Buist, surgeon in HM Navy, bachelor to Mary Ann Rennell of Stoke Damerel, spinster on 15th June 1816 is preserved in the Devon Heritage Centre ArchivesDeath
He died at Greenwich Hospital in May 1837[2]References
