Henry Bowe commenced his medical career in the Scone district in May 1849 - 'Mr. Henry Bowe, Member of the Royal College of Surgeons, London, begs to acquaint the inhabitants of Murrurundi, Haydonton, and its neighbourhood, that he intends to commence the practice of his profession in all its branches, and may be consulted at Mrs. Wilson's Cottage, Haydonton Daily.'

Henry Bowe was listed as a medical witness in January 1850 however by April 1850 had decided to return to England with his brother Thomas. His plans were changed when he was viciously assaulted by Richard Connors after becoming intoxicated at his departure celebrations. He was unable to move for nine days after the assault and Connors was sentenced to 18 months work on the roads.
