The Gold Diggers Arms
St. Aubins
The Gold Diggers Arms was situated on the Great Northern Road at St. Aubins [1]
The premises were 50 yards from the nearest licensed house and owned by William Dumaresq. They were situated close to the Presbyterian Church opposite the Manse. In the 1840s the Inn was run by a man by the name of Roach. [2]
The publicans' license was transferred from Samuel Hirst to Hugh Brien Murray on 12 December 1856. Sureties Samuel Dunbar and Matthew Miller both of Scone [1]
Hugh Brien Murray was one of the last to conduct business in the liquor line and afterwards Dr. Russell ran his surgery from the premises. Hugh Murray later selected land at the head of the Middlebrook. [3]
