Oliver Sproule was appointed Assistant-Surgeon to the Batavier Hospital Ship on 26 July 1814. [1] He was on the List of Medical Officers who served at war..... he was Assistant-Surgeon of the Leander at Algiers [2].
He was appointed Surgeon on 16 September 1816.[3]
He was appointed Surgeon to the Brisk in 1822. [4]
Surgeon Superintendent
Oliver Sproule was appointed Surgeon Superintendent on five convict ship voyages to Australia:
Borneo to VDL in 1828
Larkins to NSW in 1829. Returned to England on the Wanstead.[5]
He was on the List of Surgeons remunerated for services as Surgeon Superintendents in 1838. He was paid £170 for his employment on the immigrant vessel Strathfieldsaye from Limerick on 30th January 1838.[6]
Naval Service
He was on the List of Surgeons of the Royal Navy who were fit for service in 1841, 1844 and 1852 and on the retired list in 1871[7]
Death
Oliver Sproule died in 1869 - February 1869 - Died Feb 17, at Brook Hill, near Omagh, Oliver Sproule Esq., surgeon Royal Navy, aged 82 years - Londonderry Sentinel [8]
