Details: William and Ellen Lamb were indicted for having on 6th June 1857, and at other times, kept and maintained at Morpeth a common, ill-governed and disorderly house, the resort of persons of ill-fame. All women and children were requested to leave the court. Witnesses Constable Little, Robert McGregor, Charles Williams and Isaac White. Drinking at night, dancing and the singing of improper songs had been witnessed. Noise from the house could be heard at a distance of 200 yards; women of known bad character had been seen to go in there at night, and strange men had been seen to leave early in the morning. The prisoners who had a family of young children and a daughter of about 17 years of age were both found guilty and sentenced to 9 and 6 months imprisonment
