The first meeting convened to form a company In Newcastle to make gas, was held in the House Hotel, then one of the leading public-houses in the city. There the company had its birth, and was designated The City of Newcastle Gas and Coke Company. The company was floated with a capital of 10,000 pounds, in 5000 shares of 2 pounds each. Messrs.
