Details: LAMENTABLE DEATH OF DR. RUSSELL - On Thursday last, as Dr. Russell was mounting his horse, opposite the Telegraph office, the animal suddenly started off before the doctor had gained his seat, be was thus thrown violently to the ground. As the Quarter Sessions were being held at the time, numbers of people who were there assembled ran to his assistance and carried him to the Travellers Rest. Dr. Gordon was at once sent for, but the unfortunate gentleman died in eleven minutes afterwards. The doctor was an old colonist, living many years in Syndey, he had been in practice some five years in Murrurundi; he was 65 years of age, and leaves a wife and a large family. An inquest was held upon the body by Captain Wheeler, coroner for the district, The verdict was returned - Died from concussion of the brain. The remains of the late doctor were interred on Friday, being followed by the members of the Masonic Hodge of Hope, and nearly every person in the town. The untimely death of the poor Doctor has thrown a gloom over the place.
