Details: On, Saturday night last, about forty of the residents at Waratah and Lambton sat down to an excellent supper, in Mr. Dawson s Assembly Rooms, Waratah, the occasion being to present Dr. L. J. Halkett with a testimonial on leaving the district. Mr. Robert Turton, Mayor of Waratah, who was chairman, rose and…… then read the address and presented it, it being beautifully written on parchment, and was as follows - Presented to Lawrence J. Halkett, Esq., L.R.C.P., L., late assistant medical attendant in the Waratah and Lambton Collieries, by the officers, miners and mechanics engaged at those works, with other well-wishers residing in the townships of Lambton and Waratah, as a mark of their esteem both for his private character and our experience of his valuable professional services rendered to those who required his attention in their hours of suffering, being always gentlemanly and humane. Whilst regretting the loss of Dr. Halkett, we are pleased to hear of his appointment to an office of use- fulness as resident medical attendant to the Sydney Infirmary, accompanied with our earnest, wishes for his future happiness, and a sincere desire prosperity may attend- him in his every undertaking, - Signed by Robert Turton, Mayor of Waratah, J. Details: By the English mail news was received of the death of Dr. Laurence Halket, which took place on 7th April 1887 on board the ship General Roberts, when the vessel was about 400 miles from Lands End. Dr. Halket was lately in practice in Wynyard-square, and, about ten years since occupied the position of resident medical officer at the Sydney Hospital. For a long time previous to his death he suffered keenly from an affection of the lungs and with a view to improving his condition resolved to visit Europe. He succumbed, however, shortly before reaching England. Dr. Halket practiced in the Cootamundra district for a short time and took a lively interest in the hospital movement
