Details: The weatherboard building in Bridge-street, now being demolished to make way for a business block, was erected 53 years ago by the late Mr. A. R. Lang for the late Dr. R. Grigson, who was associated in practice here with the late Dr. Halcombe. The building has served as a surgery for the whole 53 years, having been occupied for varying periods by Drs. Details: A special meeting of the committee on the Retirement of Dr. R. E. Grigson from Muswellbrook Hospital. Dr. Grigson said that after some 40 years residence in Muswellbrook he had decided to retire from practice and therefore from his position on the Hospital which he had held since 1874. In that year he said, the staff of the Hospital consisted of a matron and a wardsman. The grounds and building were then much smaller and the patients were chiefly very poor or old shepherds....

Details: DR. R. E. GRIGSON, M.R.C.S., was born in Norfolk, England, in 1847, and educated at Guy s Hospital, London. He came to the colony in 1873 as surgeon in the emigration service and practiced for two years at Waratah. In 1875 he removed to Muswellbrook, commenced practice, and in 1878 was placed on the commission of the peace for New South Wales. He is the Government medical officer for the district, public vaccinator, surgeon to the local hospital, and has always taken a lively interest in measures affecting the welfare of the district. Dr. Grigson was married in 1885 to Mary, the daughter of the late Mr. Francis White, of Edinglassie, Muswellbrook
