Details: District Coroner Mr. C. B. Ranclaud held an inquest at the Northumberland Hotel, Minmi on the body of a miner named John Emerson who had but recently arrived in the colony. Clara Mitchell, wife of a miner named John Mitchell, residing at Minmi identified the body of the deceased who had been employed at the screens and lodged at her house. Emerson consulted with Dr. Adams, the colliery doctor over the course of a few days during which time he became increasingly ill. Dr. Bell was called to attend to the patient however declined at first because of his broken collar bone and advised them to seek out Dr. Nash. Dr. Bell attended the following day however the patient was already in a dying state. The constable was sent to find Dr. Adams to attend the inquest and found him lying fully dressed on the bed and helplessly drunk. The jury found a verdict that deceased died from congestion of the lungs; and added as a rider that death was accelerated by the incapability of Dr. Adams through drunkenness

Details: Dr. Walter Adams of Blayney; while crossing the railway line last night at Newtown was knocked down by a passing train. His right foot was smashed and his left leg and right arm were broken. His skull also was fractured and he died a few hours after his admission to the Sydney Infirmary

Details: An inquest was held at the City Coroner office as to the cause of death of Dr. Walter Justin Adams, who died at the Sydney Hospital. Griffith Evan Russell Jones identified deceased, who was a married man but had lived apart from his wife. He was of intemperate habits. Mrs. Emily Doyle, music teacher, residing near the railway station, Newtown, deposed that deceased lodged with her about six months ago, when he left for Blayney. He returned about a week ago and he was then both physically and mentally ill. On Monday he was under the influence of drunk and stated he would become an inmate of Gladesville Asylum. Some time ago he lost his diploma and he was much distressed about it. Witness had a conversation with deceased on Monday respecting suicide, and he then stated he was in a desperate state, and must either destroy himself or go to the asylum. Dr. Sinclair gave evidence as to the injuries sustained. On admission it was considered a hopeless case and death ensued in about three hours from shock to the system. He had been found lying on the railway line but could give no account how he came to be there. George Saunders, train driver deposed that he did not notice any obstruction on the line nor was he aware that he had knocked down the deceased. On arriving at Sydney he found a mans boot locked in the wheel break. A verdict of accidental death was returned
