Details: The Annie Wilson, 1118 tons, Captain Duckitt, was quarantined twice, in 1859 and in 1862. On her 1862 voyage she left Liverpool on 31 December 1861 and arrived in Sydney on 8 April 1862 with 425 emigrants, who included 70 colliers bound for pits in the Newcastle area. The surgeon-superintendent was James Sheridan Hughes, MD. There is an inscription at the Quarantine Station commemorating this visit to quarantine, reading: Annie Wilson, 425 emigrants, Apr 8 AD 1862, J S Hughes MD, Captain Duckitt. It is possible that the inscription was made by one of the coal-miners with time on his hands. No passengers from the Annie Wilson died in quarantine on either visit.
