Details: Born in Glasgow, Scotland, Mary Blackmore was a 40-year-old widow and mother of four. A native of Glasgow, she worked as a dairywoman and general domestic servant. On 22 August 1829, she was tried at Bridgwater and convicted of stealing gloves. As a result, she was sentenced to seven years transportation to New South Wales. Mary departed for Australia aboard the Roslin Castle in 1830, accompanied by one of her children. Upon arrival, she was assigned to the service of John Smith in Newcastle. She was later transferred to Moreton Bay. Physical records describe her as 5 feet 6½ inches tall, with a ruddy complexion, brown hair, and brown eyes. Mary Blackmore was granted a conditional pardon in 1836.
